3Cat: innovation, image and future

A new stage in Catalan public television

Television also reinvents itself. And if there is a good example of this, it is the leap that 3Cat has just made, launching a new news format that leaves no one indifferent. Under the 3CatInfo brand, the classic “Telenotícies” say goodbye to their traditional look to welcome a spectacular set, a much more digital image, and a concept designed to connect with how we consume information today.

It is no longer just about reporting live events: now the focus is on doing so with more context, analysis, and a visual package that grabs attention from any screen, whether it’s the living room TV or a phone on public transport. A bold renewal that aims to keep Catalan public television at the forefront, adapting to an increasingly demanding and digital audience.

A state-of-the-art set

The first thing that stands out is the new stage where the news is presented. The 400 m² set in Sant Joan Despí is not just large: it is a true technological showcase. The walls are covered with giant screens that surround the viewer and make information come alive in a different way.

But the real stars are the three vertical screens, designed in the format of the digital videos we consume daily on social media. Two move smoothly across the set, while the third, nicknamed the giratutto, is a 3.5-meter giant that can rotate 360º. Yes, you read that right: an interactive totem that turns any explanation into an immersive visual experience.

The space is completed with a large central table that allows presenters and guests to interact either standing or sitting, along with two side islands dedicated to sports, weather, and interviews. Everything is designed so that the newscast is not static, but dynamic, modern, and much more visual.

World-leading technology

If the set is impressive, the technology operating within it is no less so. 3Cat has become the first audiovisual outlet in the world to adopt a state-of-the-art robotic camera system, known as Artimo, created by the Canadian company Ross Video.

These cameras are not simple recording tools: they move smoothly, are silent, and feature a laser positioning system that eliminates the need for external references. The result? Much smoother movements, creative shots, and production with an almost cinematic finish.

In total, there are five robots that move across the set daily, plus an additional elevated camera to achieve vertical and horizontal tracking shots. A move that shows innovation is not only in graphics or apps, but also at the heart of television production.

With this investment, 3Cat makes it clear that it wants to continue setting trends and staying at the forefront of audiovisual media, putting technology at the service of quality journalism adapted to new ways of consumption.

A new visual and narrative identity

The change is not limited to the set or the cameras: it also extends to the way information is presented. Under the 3CatInfo brand, the newscasts debut new graphics, logos, and theme tunes that break with eleven years of visual continuity.

The captions are now presented with a more minimalist design: black background, orange line, and white uppercase letters—a sober yet modern style that clearly sets it apart from the previous look. The idea is to offer a more digital, clear, and recognizable image, designed for both television screens and consumption on mobile devices.

Additionally, each edition of “Telenotícies” aims to convey its own unique personality:

TN Migdia: designed to update you with the essentials.

TN Vespre: focused on providing context and delving deeper into the news.

TN Comarques: more personal, with practical and inspiring information.

In short, a narrative that goes beyond just delivering headlines: it’s about explaining, connecting, and providing context in a format that better engages today’s viewer.

New presenters and program structure

With the rebranding come new faces and a reorganization of the teams. The goal is to bring fresh energy to the newscasts without losing the most iconic presenters.

TN Comarques will be led by Núria Solé.

TN Migdia will have two teams: on weekdays with Xavi Coral and Anna Garnatxe, and on weekends with Júlia López and Joan Raventós.

TN Vespre keeps Toni Cruanyes from Monday to Thursday, but adds Raquel Sans from Friday to Sunday.

All of them share the new set, which centralizes the production of all news programs in a single space for the first time. This not only enhances visual coherence but also reinforces the idea of a unified identity under the 3CatInfo brand.

The digital and multiplatform approach

The change at 3Cat is not limited to television: it goes much further. The new 3CatInfo brand is born with a clear digital and multiplatform focus, adapted to how people consume information today.

Among the most notable new features are:

Additionally, for the first time, the newscasts include audio description for all stories, an important step toward accessibility and inclusion.

With these initiatives, the Catalan corporation demonstrates that its goal is clear: to reach the audience wherever they are, whether on traditional television, social media, or messaging platforms.

Controversy and initial criticism

As is often the case with any major renewal, not all feedback has been applause. The launch of 3CatInfo has generated some criticism from both professionals and viewers.

On one hand, Catalunya Ràdio has expressed regret that the name and brand change was implemented without sufficient internal debate, creating a feeling that part of TV3’s historical identity and that of the station itself was being lost.

On the other hand, on social media, several viewers pointed out aspects of the new design that didn’t quite convince them, such as the typography of the graphics or the way weather information was presented.

However, these reactions are part of the usual process for any project of this scale: adapting a well-established corporate image is never easy and always provokes mixed opinions. What matters is that the foundation of the change is solid and demonstrates a clear commitment to innovation and the modernization of public audiovisual service.

The importance of updating the corporate image

The case of 3Cat is a good reminder of something essential: image matters, and a lot. In an environment where the way we consume information changes daily, it is not enough to have good content; it must also be presented in an attractive, clear manner that is adapted to the audience’s new habits.

Updating the corporate identity is not just an aesthetic gesture. It means reinforcing trust in the brand, showing that it is vibrant and capable of evolving, and projecting a position of leadership over the competition. The vertical screens, the new graphics, and even the reorganization of the programs follow this logic: reaching an increasingly digital audience without compromising the journalistic rigor that characterizes Catalan public television.

Of course, any transformation carries risks: some may find it difficult to accept the changes, or may criticize certain details. But what truly makes the difference is the ability to clearly explain why the change is being made and to demonstrate, with concrete results, the added value it brings.

In short, a renewed identity not only enhances appearance but also strengthens the relationship between a brand and its audience, conveying trust, relevance, and a vision for the future.
